
In this course you'll learn how to build an acoustic guitar from scratch using raw materials. Each student works on their own guitar, and the instrument is yours to keep. In class we'll teach you a systematic method in which you'll learn how to make the parts, assemble the components, and set up your guitar so it plays beautifully.
Scott will build a guitar along with the class so you can observe first hand how each step in the process is completed. You'll learn techniques and methods used by many of today's most successful small builders, and you'll also acquire the confidence and understanding you need to move forward with your own projects.
Our procedures are well documented and each student will receive a manual for their use. The process is constantly evolving and current revisions of our documentation are avalable to graduates of the course on our alumni portal.
We make straight forward guitars in this class patterned after some of the most popular acoustic guitar designs in the marketplace. Here's a chart of your current options and specs:

Each guitar will be made in a contemporary Martin 17 style with the following features:
Mahogany back and sides
Sitka spruce top
Herringbone rosette
Wooden top binding and purfling
Bolt-on mahogany neck with tenon
Rosewood fingerboard, bridge, and headstock overlay
Two-way adjustable truss rod
Fingerboard dot inlays and fret markers
